Let’s all imagine winter is over! Time now to unstopper the bottle and let the genie of creativity escape once again into our lives. What a wonder,what a gift creativity is! What a contribution it makes to our experience of living. And we all have it in one way or another believe it or not. The problem is how to tap into it, how to release this terrific capacity we have. We need to have ways to express what is inside ourselves. We can do that through making music, singing, dancing, art, costumes, food, drama, and countless other ways including inventive work. The consequences of not expressing ourselves are alarming. It leads to many kinds of mental illness, most notably depression. Depression is the most common illness across the country. In fact, forms of mental illness and depression afflicts about 40% of the world’s population! That is a staggering finding! Participation in the arts helps release our creativity and is a great help in combating depression. Creating the world we want to live in also helps to recreate ourselves. Recreate? Recreation? Marvelous words. Hmmm…who are creative people? What stops so many of us? Questions for another day. Alex

Was thinking about the sun after all this fog. When the sun shines (and it always does even through the fog though we may not see it) it shines on everything, the flowers, trees and WEEDS. I think the arts are the same way. Music, Visual Art, Architecture surround all of us everyday. WE MAY NOT NOTICE IT..BUT IT IS THERE. It touches every person, family, home, community. Part of the work of anyone who is less or more ALERT to the Arts is to help others to Open their Eyes and their Ears to what surrounds us. OK that sounds GRANDIOSE! Try this on then: COLOUR IS ONE OF THE GREAT FREE THINGS IN THIS WORLD. COLOUR IS THE MUSIC OF PAINTING. If it is free, for all of us, why not learn more about it and enjoy it more??? Hmmmm?
